Lidded bowl, gold, inlaid with opaque and transparent enamel
Inlaying with enamel could be a fairly complicated technique. The inlaid sections on this lidded bowl are separated by a thin network of gold whose structure was created by painstakingly removing the excess material between them to produce depressions. They were filled out with a mass that was transformed into colored enamel when fired in a kiln. The piece was fired several times since the different enamels melted at different temperatures.
The lidded bowl was probably placed on a matching tray.
