A Return to the Early Kufi A talk about typography, kufi and calligraphy by Dr. Nadine Chahine
Join us for an evening with Dr. Nadine Chahine as she will introduce us to early Kufi writing and how a 9th century Arabic manuscript has led to a whole design process and a new type design.
About the talk
The first three centuries of Arabic manuscripts witnessed the evolution of script styles loosely referred to as the Early Kufi. Nadine Chahine will present a type design project inspired by the script Kufi - exploring the process and getting acquainted with its complexities and particularities.
The typeface was commissioned as part of the research on the writing system of early Qur'anic manuscripts conducted by Hamburg University’s Alba Fedeli for the InterSaME project.
The talk will be in English.
